Emmanuel Eseme Crowned Commonwealth Sprint Champion with Gold

Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme produced outstanding performances in difficult wet conditions to claim the coveted 100m titles on another memorable night of athletics at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Eseme delivered the performance of his career, storming to victory in a new Commonwealth Games record of 9.83 seconds to secure Cameroon’s first medal of the Games. Having already impressed by qualifying fastest in a lifetime best of 9.89 seconds, the 31-year-old found another level in the final, holding off Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy and Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi.

“It’s like the hard work has paid off,” said Eseme, who credited his faith and coaching team after his historic victory. He revealed his race strategy was to stay composed after the start, confident his strength over the closing metres would carry him through.

Despite the challenging weather, the evening delivered world-class performances, memorable records and inspiring stories of perseverance on the Glasgow stage.
