Our Work

Broadcasting as a Tool for Community Development

Jambo! Radio Scotland uses broadcasting and creative media as practical tools for developing skills, increasing participation and amplifying community voices.

Our charitable programmes are designed around the needs and experiences of the communities we serve.

Young People & Creative Skills

We provide practical opportunities for young people to develop skills in broadcasting, journalism, presenting, interviewing, podcasting, video production, photography, editing, livestreaming and digital content creation.

Participants can gain hands-on experience alongside broadcasters, volunteers and creative professionals.

Our aim is to help young people build confidence, practical experience and portfolios while introducing them to education and career opportunities within media and the creative industries.

Employability & Progression

We use broadcasting and digital media to create accessible routes into skills development.

Our training, volunteering, mentoring and work-experience opportunities help participants develop communication, teamwork, digital, technical and creative skills.

Where appropriate, we support participants to explore progression into further education, apprenticeships, volunteering, freelance opportunities and employment.

Refugees & New Scots

Jambo! Radio provides opportunities for refugees and New Scots to participate in community broadcasting, volunteering and creative skills development.

Our approach creates spaces where people can develop confidence, build networks, learn new skills and contribute their voices and experiences to community life.

Community Broadcasting & Representation

Representation is central to our work.

Our broadcasting provides opportunities for people from communities that remain under-represented in mainstream media to discuss issues that matter to them and tell their own stories.

Programming includes community affairs, culture, music, education, health, wellbeing, sport and conversations about life in Scotland.

We also use multilingual and culturally relevant broadcasting where appropriate to make information more accessible.

Health & Wellbeing

We use trusted community broadcasting to improve conversations around health and wellbeing.

Our programmes provide opportunities for community members, professionals and organisations to discuss health issues in accessible and culturally relevant ways.

Topics include mental wellbeing, women's health, public health and other issues identified through community engagement.

Culture & Heritage

We celebrate and share African, Caribbean and wider community culture and heritage through broadcasting, storytelling, events and creative projects.

Our work creates opportunities for communities to preserve stories, explore identity, celebrate cultural contribution and introduce wider audiences to different experiences and traditions.

Volunteering

Volunteers are central to Jambo! Radio Scotland.

We provide opportunities to gain experience in broadcasting, production, presenting, administration, events, digital media and community engagement.

Volunteering enables people to contribute to their communities while developing confidence, skills, networks and practical experience.

Working in Partnership

We work collaboratively with community organisations, educational institutions, public bodies, charities and other partners where collaboration can increase community benefit.

Partnership working allows us to extend opportunities, share expertise and connect participants with wider pathways into learning and progression.

Be Part of Our Work

Volunteer, train, present a programme or partner with us — there are many ways to take part in our charitable work.
