Glasgow Film Theatre Unveils Exciting July Programme with Classic Films, Special Guests and 70mm Epic

June 28, 2026 by Jambo! Radio Scotland

Film lovers in Glasgow have plenty to look forward to this July as Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) has announced a packed programme featuring celebrated filmmakers, timeless classics, special guest events and the city’s only 70mm screening of Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic, The Odyssey.

One of the month’s highlights is a special season celebrating acclaimed British director Clio Barnard, following the success of her latest film, I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, at the Cannes Film Festival. Audiences will also have the chance to revisit some of her best-known works, including The Selfish Giant, Dark River and Ali & Ava.

Food lovers can enjoy a collection of feel-good films centred on food and culture, including the 30th-anniversary screening of Big Night, the romantic drama The Lunchbox, and the beautifully restored Japanese classic Tampopo.

Fans of Reese Witherspoon can celebrate the 25th anniversary of Legally Blonde with a new 4K screening, alongside other memorable performances in Election and the Oscar-nominated Wild.

The programme also includes No Strings on Me: Cinema’s Living Puppets, a season exploring the art of puppetry in film with favourites such as Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal and Alice. Families can also enjoy a free screening of Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

GFT will host several special events throughout the month, including filmmaker Q&A sessions, documentaries exploring social justice, and a Scottish premiere celebrating pioneering lesbian filmmaker Barbara Hammer during Glasgow Pride Month.

Cinema-goers can also revisit classics including The Godfather, Taxi Driver, The Big Sleep and The Birdcage, while accessible screenings continue through GFT’s popular Access Film Club and the dementia-friendly Movie Memories programme.

Tickets for all July screenings are available now through the Glasgow Film Theatre website and box office.
