Who We Are

A Community-Led Charity

Jambo! Radio Scotland exists to advance opportunity, participation and representation through community broadcasting, education, training and creative activity.

Our radio station is more than a broadcasting platform. It provides a practical community space where people can develop skills, gain experience, volunteer, share their stories and participate in conversations that affect their communities.

Through radio, podcasts, video, digital media, training, events and community projects, we help people develop confidence, communication and creative skills while increasing the visibility of voices that remain under-represented in mainstream media and towards a more representative cultural life in Scotland, and inspires our vision of a Scotland committed to anti-racism.

Our Mission

Amplifying Voices. Developing Skills. Creating Opportunities.

Our mission is to empower communities through inclusive broadcasting, education, creative skills development and meaningful participation.

We work to:

  • Amplify under-represented community voices.
  • Provide accessible broadcasting and digital media training.
  • Create volunteering and work-experience opportunities.
  • Support young people to develop skills, confidence and aspirations.
  • Improve access to trusted community information.
  • Promote cultural understanding and community participation.
  • Create pathways towards further education, training and employment.
  • Provide a platform where communities can tell their own stories.
  • Provide a space that is guided by people who bring authenticity, expertise and experience. We aim to collaborate with the public, historians, the heritage sector and activists to allow for curiosity and reflection.

Our Impact

Community-Led. Community-Focused.

Our impact is measured not only by the number of people who listen to Jambo! Radio, but by the opportunities created through our charitable work.

We provide volunteering, training, work experience, community broadcasting and creative opportunities that enable people to develop practical skills, confidence and connections.

Our programmes help participants gain broadcasting and digital media experience, build portfolios, develop communication and teamwork skills and explore pathways into education, volunteering and employment.

We regularly gather feedback from participants, volunteers, listeners and community partners so that people who access our services can influence the programmes and opportunities we develop.

Ben & Jerry's Foundation Fund donates £25,000 to support our Next Gen Project 2.0.

March 18, 2026 by Jambo! Radio Scotland

In 2024, Ben & Jerry’s Foundation Fund donated £14,000 to our first Next Gen Project and after seeing the impact of the work we do with people from the refugee and asylum seekers communities.

The negative narratives of refugees and asylum seekers and the demonisation of migrants’ communities by sections of politics and some section of the mainstream media dehumanise the sufferings of people fleeing wars and death just to exist for life as any other human being.

The absence of migrants’ and refugees’ voices in the media spaces allows room for misrepresentations and false narratives being peddled against us. Refugees and asylum seekers often lack access to platforms to respond to negative media coverage.

To address this issue, our project do the following to counter that:

Advocacy and Changing Perceptions:

By highlighting the achievements of refugees and the challenges of marginalised communities through our programming, influences public discourse and policy change. We raise awareness about the unique needs of refugees and migrants, and challenge negative stereotypes, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.

Building Skills and Employability:
Through targeted workshops, mentorship programmes, and creative training sessions, we equip refugees and migrants with digital, creative, and professional skills.
