Mind Matters
Better Wellbeing for African and Caribbean Communities (Glasgow)
Mind Matters is a community-led mental health and wellbeing initiative designed to support African and Caribbean adults in Glasgow who experience isolation, poverty, trauma, and barriers to accessing culturally appropriate support. It delivers workshops, peer support sessions, and a weekly multilingual radio programme that tackles stigma and promotes mental health awareness to our thousands of audience and community members, also in different languages.
- ✓ Facilitated wellbeing workshops led by professionals
- ✓ Community conversations addressing stigma and cultural barriers
- ✓ Weekly "Mind Matters" radio broadcast in familiar languages
- ✓ Volunteer-led engagement to build trust and participation
This project addresses deep-rooted inequalities in mental health access, particularly for migrants and minority ethnic communities facing racism, language barriers, and socio-economic disadvantage.
- → Reduces social isolation and loneliness
- → Improves mental health awareness and help-seeking behaviour
- → Builds confidence and resilience through peer support
- → Creates safe, culturally relevant spaces for dialogue
